An interactive Mindfulness Meditation blogLoving Kindness Meditation
If you want to be more caring and compassionate the journey begins in your mind. Here is an exercise you can do. In Buddhism this is called loving kindness meditation. If you pray to God you can do this exercise as a way to prepare your mind for prayer. I will be posting various versions of this meditation here from time to time so look out for them.
Be still and sit quietly. You can sit crossed legged on the floor (sitting on a firm cushion is recommended) or on a chair. If you sit on a chair make sure you sit straight, don’t slouch or lean back.
Take three deep breaths.
On the fourth breath inhale deeply and as you exhale think to yourself:
May I be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May my parents be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May my teachers/ministers be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May my family members be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May my friends be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May my enemies be well, happy and peaceful.
Inhale deeply and as you exhale think:
May all living beings be well, happy and peaceful.
You can repeat this process three times and then begin mindfulness meditation or your prayer to God.
May you all be well, happy and peaceful!
