An Afternoon Sit

The madness that the mind tries to attach itself to during the course of the day can be overwhelming. Today I took a walk to the DC Buddhist Vihara on my lunch break. It’s only five or six blocks from where I work so a good five minute walk I would say.

It was nice to get a twenty minute meditation in. I watched as all the issues of the day raced through my mind and at times it became difficult to relax. Nevertheless I did and I certainly needed it. Afternoon meditation, I find to be a lot tougher than morning meditation. Evening can be tough to. I generally try to take one minute out of every hour to relax and practice mindfulness so that all the subconscious stuff doesn’t just come rushing in when I sit in the evening. What about you? How often do you take time out of the day to “breathe?”
